Fort St. John clinic identified as new measles exposure site

Northern Health has reported a third measles exposure location in Fort St. John in June.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A third measles exposure notice has been issued for Fort St. John. 

In a July 4th Facebook post, Northern Health issued a warning that people may have been exposed to measles at the Fort St. John prenatal clinic. 

According to the post, there has been a potential measles exposure at the 112th Avenue clinic between 10:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on June 27th.

The health authority is encouraging everyone who may have been exposed at this location to monitor for symptoms.

This is the third exposure location reported in Fort St. John in June, with one reported in the Fort St. John emergency department waiting room between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on June 23rd and another reported at Bert Bowes Middle School between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. from June 18th to June 20th. 

As of the B.C. Centre for Disease Control’s latest case count update on July 3rd, Northern Health is currently reporting the province’s only six active cases of measles and 61 of the 87 total cases reported B.C. in 2025.

Anyone who is experiencing similar symptoms is encouraged to stay at home and connect with their care provider to get tested. 

According to Northern Health, one in 10 cases of measles will develop ear infections or pneumonia; one in 1,000 will experience permanent brain damage, blindness and deafness due to inflammation of the brain; and one in 3,000 cases result in fatalities. 

Northern Health is encouraging residents to get their measles vaccination if they have not already, and exercise caution if they believe they have been exposed to the virus.
