Hiker with ‘burn injuries’ rescued by South Peace Search and Rescue
South Peace Search and Rescue said it helped evacuate a hiker with burn injuries from the Monkman trail in Tumbler Ridge on June 29th.

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — One hiker was rescued from the Monkman trail following burn injuries that required immediate evacuation.
According to South Peace Search and Rescue (SPSAR), it received a call shortly after 7 p.m. on June 29th about a medical emergency involving a group of hikers on a Monkman trail near Tumbler Ridge.
The hikers used a Zolea satellite communicator to call for help after one group member sustained “burn injuries” and required an immediate evacuation for medical treatment.
“Thanks to their calm thinking and preparedness, help arrived quickly,” SPSAR said in a June 30th Facebook post.
A team of 10 volunteers with specialized gear and a Bailey helicopter was “quickly” mobilized.
“Their swift response was crucial in providing support during this emergency,” said Allen Tonn, search manager for SPSAR.
SPSAR said the team experienced “challenging terrain,” but worked efficiently and professionally to ensure everyone’s safety.

“We are proud of the dedication and teamwork demonstrated by our volunteers and partner agencies,” said Tonn.
The individual was transported to Dawson Creek and District Hospital for further care.
SPSAR also thanked Bailey Helicopters for its support in the rescue.
