Thunderstorm and rain warning issued for Peace region

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Peace region, Fort Nelson and Prince George on June 18th.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Another severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Peace region and Fort Nelson areas. 

At 9:50 a.m. on  Wednesday, June 18th, Environment Canada said conditions today (June 18th) are favourable for thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Additionally, in a special weather statement at 12:40 p.m., it said up to 40 to 50 mm of rainfall can be expected on June 18th and June 19th.

“A slow-moving area of rain will develop tonight over the BC Peace region and spread to northern areas of Williston Lake,” said the service. 

“Widespread amounts of 20 mm are forecast with 40 to 50 mm near the Rockies and over northern areas of Williston Lake.”

The thunderstorm warning affects the North and South Peace regions, Fort Nelson and Prince George.

“When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” said Environment Canada. 

The thunderstorm warning does not specify when people should expect a storm. 

This comes after warnings were issued for severe thunderstorms on June 16th.
