FORT NELSON, B.C. — Residents of Fort Nelson will see their energy bills increase next month, despite the price of the gas they receive staying the same.

According to a June 18th press release, Fortis BC has been given approval by the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) to “maintain the cost of gas rate.”

However, due to increases in the storage and transport rates, customers in Fort Nelson can expect to see a 3.5 per cent annual increase on their bill.

FortisBC customers in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Interior, North, Whistler, Vancouver Island, Revelstoke and the Kootenays will only see a 1.9 per cent bill increase.

“We understand that affordability and reliability are top priorities for many of the families and businesses we serve in British Columbia,” Sarah Nelson, director of customer service at Fortis BC, said.

“That’s why we remain committed to keeping rates as low as possible while ensuring reliable energy service and supporting progress on climate action goals.”

Customers will also be receiving three per cent renewable natural gas (RNG) blend, compared to the two per cent currently being transported due to temporary approval from BCUC.
