Fort St. John’s Sunshine List published: Document details councillor and staff salaries and expenses

The City of Fort St. John has approved and published its 2024 Sunshine List, which notes $26 million in staff spending.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The city has released documents showing it spent more than $26 million on staff and $74.8 million on goods or services in 2024. 

During the June 9th regular meeting, the City of Fort St. John council reviewed the 2024 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI), also known as the ‘Sunshine List.’

The document outlines approximately $26 million in total remuneration across the year, including $4.24 million to the International Association for Fire Fighters, $16.38 million for the BC General Employee Union and $5.06 million in exemptions.

The highest-paid employee was Milo MacDonald, the city’s chief administrative officer with a salary of $250,799.33.

Councillors and the mayor accounted for a total of $347,893.45, with Mayor Lila Hansen making $103,791.01.

Unlike last year’s Sunshine List, most of the councillors had slightly different amounts of remuneration.

Councillors Gord Klassen and Byron Stewart both made $41,206.72, while Jim Lequiere made $41,184.26 and Tony Zabinsky made $41,111.30.

Councillor Sarah MacDougall made $39,946.72 and Trevor Bolin made the least at $39,446.72. 

The Sunshine List details all employees of the City of Fort St. John, both their salaries and expenses throughout the year. 

The elected official with the most expenses covered by the city was Councillor Gord Klassen with $18,648.05, and the employee with the most expenses reimbursed was Milo MacDonald with $14,155.09. 

The document does not include a breakdown of the expenses. 

In total, the city paid approximately $74.81 million to suppliers of goods or services throughout 2024.
