Runway closed at Fort St. John airport for repaving
One of North Peace Regional Airport’s runways has been closed since June 9th for repaving.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — One of North Peace Regional Airport’s runways has been closed for the week for repavement.
Stacy Smith, managing director at the Fort St. John airport, said one of the runways has been closed since Monday, June 9th for pavement work, but this has not affected the flight schedule.Â
“As far as any delays or cancellations of flights, there’s been none due to the construction,” said Smith.

He said the airport’s second runway is still available for aircraft to land and planes often only need to make another turnaround before landing.Â
Smith said the closure may force pilots to make crosswind landings, which larger aircraft are able to handle due to their size, while smaller aircraft may have their limits tested more from turbulence. Â
“Crosswinds are a normal part of pilots’ takeoffs and landings,” said Smith.
Smith expects the runway to reopen by June 12th or 13th.Â
