Alces River wildfire evacuation alert issued by PRRD

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has issued an evacuation alert due to the wildfire in the Goodlow area by the Alces River.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has issued an evacuation alert due to the wildfire in the Goodlow area by the Alces River.

The notice issued on Friday, June 6th was issued as a result of the wildfire, which was discovered on June 4th and now sits at 1,851 hectares.

“Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire Service, the Peace River Regional District has issued a new evacuation alert for the Alces River wildfire,” reads the notice. “ [This is] due to the potential danger to life and health.”

The following areas are asked to be on alert, which means the residents affected do not need to leave yet, but should be ready to leave at a moment’s notice if an evacuation order is issued:

  •  Extending two kilometres south from the junctions of the 256th Road and 211th Road, the 256th road and 221st road.
  •  From the junction of the 256 and 221 Roads north approximately 4km, covering the area east to the B.C./AB border.

The notice then says the following addresses are affected:

  • 15615 211th road
  •  15656 211th road
  •  15801 211th road
  •  15946 211th road
  •  1740 256th road
  •  1762 256th road
  •  1809 256th road
  •  1998 256th road
  •  2149 256th road
  •  2295 256th road

Those who are interested in looking to see if their addresses are affected can use the PRRD’s online map tool on the district’s website.

The notice says the evacuation alert has been “issued to prepare [residents] to evacuate premises or properties,” but does say “residents will be given as much notice as possible prior to evacuation.”

However, according to the notice, they may receive “limited notice due to changing conditions.”
