Twenty-year stalwart at Alwin Holland Elementary honoured as Pita Pit’s Teacher of the Month
Kelly Snow, who has been teaching for over 20 years at Alwin Holland Elementary, has been selected as Pita Pit’s Teacher of the Month for May.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A long-standing teacher at Alwin Holland Elementary has been picked as Pita Pit’s Teacher of the Month for May for her commitment to students and volunteering in Fort St. John.
Kelly Snow has consistently taught all subjects for grades two and three at Alwin Holland Elementary for 20 years.
Snow said her long career has allowed her to have great relationships with her students while helping them in their educational journeys, with many of them remaining in contact years later.

“The kids are the best part about being a teacher, it’s not all the other stuff, it’s the connections that we make with each other,” said Snow.
“I’m still in touch with [some of them] as adults and after 20 years, some of their children are now in my class,” said Snow.
Snow said she likes to ensure her students are well cared for and have a community-centred approach to helping the world.
“It’s just amazing to watch them giving back [to the community] and keep going,” said Snow.

Despite not being able to have kids of her own, Snow said her students give her immense satisfaction.
She also volunteers with her husband Bill at the North Peace Cultural Centre, with the Fort St. John Huskies hockey team and assists her teachers’ union, the Peace River North Teachers’ Association.
Kelly Snow was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1971 and attended Nova Scotia Teachers College from 1990 to 1994.
Snow has wanted to be a teacher since she was young and doesn’t plan to retire anytime soon.
“I don’t see myself stopping, I love what I do most of the time and it gives me reasons to get up in the morning,” said Snow.

The monthly event is part of Moose Media and Pita Pit Canada’s mission to honour the teachers in the community.
