CHETWYND, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is hosting an event to celebrate the grand opening of Chetwynd’s new public library.

The library has technically been open since last year in what the district calls a “soft opening,” after being under construction for two years. Now, almost a year later, a grand opening event for the facility is scheduled for early June.

“The new Chetwynd Library stands as an example of the power of community collaboration,” says Dan Rose, PRRD director for electoral area E. “We are excited to officially open this important space and acknowledge all those who contributed to making this vision a reality.”

The grand opening ceremony will include speeches from various local figures, as well as offering attendees a chance to explore the new library’s amenities, including a children’s program room, teen seating area, virtual reality room and more.

The PRRD began exploring options for repairing or replacing the previous library in 2016 at the request of the District of Chetwynd. In April 2024, the PRRD amended the library contract to furnish the new facility upon completion.

The grand opening ceremony is happening on June 3rd, from 5 to 6 p.m. The library is located at 4522 North Access Road in Chetwynd.
