Gardner takes top spot at bull riding event in Manitoba

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A local rodeo athlete started a tour of Manitoba with a victory against some of Canada’s bull riding elite.

Fort St. John’s Jake Gardner took home the win at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canadian Touring Pro stop in Dauphin at the Credit Union Place on Thursday, May 22nd.

He won with a two-ride score of 171 points on bulls Patiently Waiting and Night Stalker.

This was Gardner’s second win in just under two weeks, as he also took the victory at the Rose City Invitational in Brooks, Alberta on May 10th.

“We just finished up a great event,” said Gardner on PBR Canada’s Instagram page. “Just grateful. Managed to get the win tonight on two great bulls.”

Gardner has been a member of the PBR circuit since 2017. The 28-year-old earned $3,595 and 56.67 points with the victory, which put him atop the Canadian PBR rankings by 75 points over second-place Cody Coverchuk of Saskatchewan.

Gardner will be next in action on Friday evening, at the PBR Canada Cup series in Brandon, Manitoba at the Keystone Centre.

A guy who found his calling later in life, Edward Hitchins is a professional storyteller with a colourful and extensive history.

Beginning his journey into journalism in 2012 at Seneca College, Edward also graduated from Humber College with an Advanced Diploma in Print and Broadcast Journalism in 2018.  After time off from his career and venturing into other vocations, he started his career proper in 2022 in Campbell River, B.C.

Edward was attracted to the position of Indigenous Voices reporter with Energeticcity as a challenge.  Having not been around First Nations for the majority of his life, he hopes to learn about their culture through meaningful conversations while properly telling their stories. 

In a way, he hopes this position will allow both himself and Energeticcity to grow as a collective unit as his career moves forward and evolves into the next step.

He looks forward to growing both as a reporter and as a human being while being posted in Fort St. John.
