FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John has won an award for its event designed to champion resident wellbeing and inclusivity.

The municipality was given the North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA) Leadership Award in the social responsibility category for its biennial Health and Safety Conference

“In a time when disconnection and burnout are so prevalent, this conference reminded us that mental health matters and that healing happens when we come together,” said Fort St. John Mayor Lilia Hansen.

“We’re incredibly honoured to be recognized for this important work.”

The conference was first held in 2017 and has expanded in recent years, with First Nations, municipalities, government agencies, non-profits and industry representatives attending in 2025.

Keynote speakers this year included Allan Kehler, Anthony McLean, Jessica Holmes and Dr. Jody Carrington, all with messages about mental health, resilience and the importance of connection.

Hansen thanked the city’s health and safety, human resources and communications teams for making the conference possible.

The NCLGA is a non-profit advocacy organization representing the city and other communities from across the Peace region and B.C.

At the NCLGA’s AGM this month, Fort St. John councillor Tony Zabinsky was elected to become its first vice president.
