TAYLOR, B.C. — A long-running dog show returned to Taylor this Victoria Day weekend.

The Fort St. John and District Kennel Club’s annual show, which first started in 1982, ran from May 16th to May 19th this year.

Dog owners from all over the country, including Manitoba and Whitehorse, travelled to the Taylor District Ice Centre for the event.

There were two shows per day – eight in total for the whole event – with around 170 hopeful hounds competing in each show.

The judges gave scores based on the breed standard, for example the dogs’ height and weight.

Owner-handlers from the local region and their pups who secured a coveted ‘best in show’ rosette include Terri Pickett with her boxer; Crystal Davies with her lakeland terrier; and Debra Bowles and Teghyn Kube, both with Siberian huskies.

“I love the dog show and the dog show community,” said Donna Fox, president of the Fort St. John and District Kennel Club. “I’ve made a lot of friends here.

“I just love seeing all the different kinds of dogs.”

Fox has been president of the club for about 20 years and currently owns three dachshunds. However, the most dogs she has owned at one time is around 16.

The club’s dog show started in Fort St. John, but moved to Taylor in 1997.
