Fort Nelson River wildfire now ‘being held’

One of the many overwintering wildfires burning north of Fort Nelson, near Fort Nelson River, is now listed as ‘being held’ by the BC Wildfire Service.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — One of the many overwintering wildfires burning north of Fort Nelson is now listed as ‘being held’ by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

The fire – located near the Fort Nelson River – has burned 171 hectares so far this year. It was initially found to have reignited for this year on May 2nd.

After being discovered, the fire burned ‘out of control’ for several days, tripling in size compared to when it was first identified.

Its new classification means BCWS believes it is unlikely to expand further beyond its current boundaries.

Like the other overwintering wildfires in the area, BCWS continues to monitor this blaze with reconnaissance flights via helicopter.
