Brandt Creek wildfire grows to 355 hectares

FORT NELSON, B.C. — Another holdover wildfire from previous years has reignited and burned hundreds of hectares north of Fort Nelson.

The blaze, discovered on May 9th, is located in the Brandt Creek area, near another holdover fire that has burned more than 400 hectares.

The Brandt Creek blaze has burned 355 hectares so far, and is classified as ‘out of control’ by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS). The listed cause of the blaze, which began in 2023, is a lightning strike.

Like many other holdover wildfires in the area, according to the BCWS website, firefighters are focusing on monitoring the situation to see which blazes are becoming serious problems, so they can assign resources where they’re most needed.

As such, no resources have been assigned to the fire so far outside of the crews monitoring the blaze.

No area restrictions or evacuation alerts have been issued as a result of this fire. Energeticcity.ca will update this story with new information as it becomes available.
