FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Competitors from around Fort St. John will have the opportunity to participate in a local version of a hit reality show this month.

Registration is underway for the Energetic Amazing Race on Saturday, May 31st, 2025. A website promoting the event promises a chance to “solve clues and tackle physical and mental challenges to advance – first team to finish wins!”

It is based on the popular reality show, The Amazing Race, which debuted in 2001, has seen 37 seasons to date and challenges teams of two to travel to exotic locales in a race to the finish.

The Fort St. John event began in 2013 and, after being cancelled due to staffing issues in spring 2024, returned later that year.

City recreation programmer Marissa Jordan says instead of the parent series’ exotic locales, participants will go to different locations around Fort St. John entirely by foot.

There will be teams in adult and family categories, with a few differences between the event and the show it’s based on.

“It is a very modified and scaled-down adaptation inspired by the show,” said Jordan. “So everybody is running to different stops in town.

“So people don’t know where they’re going. They just know they’re running there.”

While in the traditional game clues are given to each team in the same order, this version will see entrants receive a list of clues to solve.

Upon solving a puzzle, contestants have the option to pick which location around the city to go first, with the team to first reach the finish at the Visitor’s Centre in the Pomeroy Sports Centre the victor.

Jordan said she has seen repeat entrants come to compete.

The event is free to register, and can be done online, with prizes for best-dressed team in each division.

The Energetic Amazing Race happens on Saturday, May 31st from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Registration is open until Sunday, May 26th. Visit the event’s website for more details.
