“My personal goal was to get over 70, and it sounds like we’re there,” Zimmer said in a speech at his campaign office on 100th Avenue. “We had a very motivated voting base this time around for obvious reasons.”

He continued: “I always call it my job reapplication process, and I had to pass to get my job back…you know, people think I have a slam dunk, I really don’t.

“It all comes down to you, each individually, going into that ballot room and voting for me.”

He thanked his family and his campaign team.

“It’s a really strong showing of support for me, and I really appreciate voters turning up at the polls and getting out to vote,” Zimmer told Energeticcity.ca.

“We’ll see what the final count is, because…I think it’s still too close.

“There was a narrative shift in the campaign [which] probably surprised a few of us with how much, how significant that shift really was, and the effects that it had, but that’s ok.

“It’s not official yet, so we’ll see what the final numbers are, but we have some work [to do].”

Zimmer explained affordability, the carbon tax and supporting the resource sector are some of his biggest priorities returning to Parliament following the election.

“We’re going to be fighting the good fight to just support our resource sector workers and the sectors that they come from.”
