A prescribed burn is set to take place over the coming weeks on Bear Mountain Community Pasture near Dawson Creek.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A group of companies has announced a prescribed burn within the Peace River Regional District (PRRD) set to begin soon that could lead to visible smoke near Dawson Creek.
According to an announcement on the PRRD’s Facebook page, the Bear Mountain Grazing Association and Peace River Forage Association of BC — two groups dedicated to managing forage quality in the region — are partnering for a prescribed burn on Bear Mountain Community Pasture.
The burn is being organized with assistance from Northern Fire WoRx and Shifting Mosaics Consulting – two Fort Nelson-based companies.

Roughly 50 hectares of grass will be burned, according to the PRRD, in order to help manage the land and improve forage access, quality and production in the area.
A firm date for the burn has yet to be set, but according to the district, it could begin any time within the last two weeks of April or the first week of May.
Residents are being informed to expect to see smoke from the burn from Dawson Creek, on some parts of Highway 97, in Bear Mountain Wind Park and in other surrounding areas.
This is the second prescribed burn announced by the PRRD this month, following another in the Farrell Creek area announced April 4th.
