PRRD announces prescribed burn near Farrell Creek

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Peace River Regional District (PRRD) residents are being warned to expect some smoke in an area west of Fort St. John next week.

According to a social media post by the PRRD, a prescribed burn is coming to the Farrell Creek area soon for land management purposes.

Roughly 140 hectares of grass will be burned, and staff members say the BC Wildfire Service has already been notified.

Preparations could begin as soon as Sunday, April 6th, if the weather permits. People are being warned that they might see some smoke nearby and from Highway 29.

Prescribed burns happen all over the province for a wide variety of reasons, including land management and to mitigate the risk of more severe weather in the lead-up to wildfire season.
