FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John’s revamped website is up and operational.

According to a press release, the refreshed website “offers a modern look, new functionality, and user-friendly experience” for both residents and businesses in the city.

Fort St. John communications manager Ryan Harvey says plans to revamp the www.fortstjohn.ca website date back to 2023, when the city noticed the existing platform had “some challenges.”

Work began on the re-do after the budget was approved in 2024.

He said the unveiling of the site on Thursday, April 10th was not related to February’s cyber incident but rather “convenient timing.”

“Our previous website had some challenges being a proprietary content management system,” said Harvey. “As well as needing a refresh from an accessibility and design perspective.”

The new website offers streamlined navigation and content, featuring simplified menus and concise information. It also offers an open source platform, offering easier updates and future potential enhancements, and more.

One of the newer features for residents and visitors to Fort St. John will be the activity and program search tool, through a three-step process.

“It allows people to find city-run programs, recreation, culture programs and activities in an easier manner,” explained Harvey. “Whether they’re looking for swimming lessons or skating, all those live there and are easily found.”

Harvey confirmed to Energeticcity.ca the website’s facelift was designed to meet web content accessibility guidelines, which are regulations to ensure easier navigation for web users worldwide.

The new website can be accessed at www.fortstjohn.ca.
