FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Several events in Fort St. John will support local businesses and celebrate women’s strength this International Women’s Day.

On February 27th, the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society (FSJWRS) announced three fundraising events will be held around Fort St. John on Saturday, March 8th.

“We are deeply thankful to all the organizers of these fundraisers,” said Amanda Trotter, executive director of FSJWRS.

way of making a difference,” said Rheannon White, owner of Studio 105.

This event allows people to come to receive a free haircut in exchange for non-expired and non- perishable food donations.

“I’m thrilled to be running this event for the ninth year, and this year, we are proud to partner with the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society,” said White.

“Last year, we had approximately 300 customers come in for a free haircut and collected nearly 2,300 pounds of food. We’re hoping to exceed that number this year.”

Studio 105 is located at 10712 101 Avenue.

“All food donations will go directly to our Outreach Store, which is a lifeline for many in our community,” said Trotter.

“In 2024 alone, we received 15,247 visits to the Outreach Store — an increase of 2,032 from the previous year.”

“Additionally, 16,786 clients accessed our major services in 2024, a 13.6 per cent rise from 2023.”

There will also be an International Women’s Day Charity Ride held at the Vive Spin Studio from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

According to the FSJWRS release, it aims to raise $10,000 to support the FSJWRS’s services.

For the event, each rider must secure a sponsor that donates $1 per minute for all riders who keep their wheels spinning.

“Vive stands for living your biggest and fullest life,” said Jessica Prince, owner and lead instructor at Vive Spin Studio.

“This event is a beautiful opportunity for the community to come together and sponsor us in helping women do just that. By supporting this cause, we celebrate International Women’s Day and strengthen our community.”

The third event is a Brazilian and bikini sugar wax marathon at The Lippy Lemon from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The event hopes to raise $1,500 for FSJWRS.

“These events play a vital role in helping us continue meeting the growing demand for support,” Trotter concludes.
