Dawson Creek shooting suspect remains in police custody following hearing

The suspect in investigations into two shootings in Dawson Creek in January – Nolan Douglas Schmidt – remains in custody after a court hearing.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The suspect in investigations into two Dawson Creek shootings remains in custody following a court hearing, according to RCMP officers and members of the B.C. Prosecution Service.

Nolan Douglas Schmidt, age 23, was arrested on January 23rd in connection with shooting incidents in the evening on January 19th on 102nd Avenue and at a nearby hotel. One person was found dead and another injured.

After his initial arrest, Schmidt was charged with second-degree murder. Officers announced on February 24th that he had also been charged with aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent.

According to Ann Seymour, a member of the B.C. prosecution service, Schmidt had an “interim hearing” for the murder charge on Tuesday, February 25th. 

Following the hearing, RCMP media relations officer Madonna Saunderson says Schmidt was remanded back into police custody ahead of his next court date.

Seymour confirmed to Energeticcity.ca his next court date is scheduled for March 4th.
