23-year-old arrested and charged with murder in Dawson Creek
A man has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting that took place over the weekend in Dawson Creek.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A man has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting that took place over the weekend in Dawson Creek.
According to a press release from the RCMP, 23-year-old Nolan Douglas Schmidt has been charged with second-degree murder, in connection with a shooting which took place on Sunday, January 19th.
Police have also alleged that shooting is connected to another that took place nearby shortly after, which sent one other individual to the hospital.

Officers say these were not random attacks; everyone involved knew each other. Investigators are reportedly looking into other ongoing cases within the city to see if any further connections can be made.
“The surge of resources that supported the investigation contributed to an arrest and subsequent charge approval,” said Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon of E Division Major Crime.
“Additional charges may be possible if supported by further evidence as the investigation moves forward.”
Schmidt is reportedly still within police custody, pending the results of a court hearing on January 23rd.
