New charges laid against Dawson Creek shooting suspect

Two additional charges have been laid against Nolan Douglas Schmidt after a Dawson Creek shooting on January 19th.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Two additional charges have been laid against a suspect in a Dawson Creek shooting case.

Twenty-three-year-old Nolan Douglas Schmidt has been charged with aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent in relation to a shooting that took place on January 19th in Dawson Creek.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on the 19th, officers with the Dawson Creek RCMP detachment were called to an area on 102nd Avenue after receiving reports of gunshots.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found one person deceased and received reports of more shots being fired at a local hotel, where they found one person injured.

Schmidt has previously been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the dead body found on 102nd Avenue on the 19th.

According to police, Schmidt is still in custody relating to both incidents, pending his next court appearance on Tuesday, February 25th.
