FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Pita Pit’s first teacher of the month for 2025 is Alyssa Ware, recognized for her hard work with the district’s highest needs students.

“That’s amazing, I don’t even know what to say,” says Ware.

Working as a resource teacher at North Peace Secondary School (NPSS), Ware is in charge of around a dozen educational assistants who work with School District 60’s students with physical disabilities and neurodiverse students who need one-on-one support.

“I absolutely love working with my students and working together with our team to help each student achieve their goals at school,” said Ware.

According to her nomination letter, Ware works in a difficult job and a “very thankless” position.

She was also unlikely to receive many votes due to having very few students, said the letter.

Despite this, she is described as “fabulous” with her fellow staff and students.

“The real goal of the resource program is to help the students build their independence and confidence in the community and we focus on things like emotional regulation, social skills, safety, personal care and workplace skills,” said Ware.

The newly nominated teacher says she has eight students graduating this year and could not be more proud of them.

“Each and every student has their own set of strengths, and it’s been so rewarding to celebrate their accomplishments with them,” said Ware.

Growing up in Surrey, B.C., Ware attended the University of British Columbia and University of New Brunswick.

She has been living and teaching in Fort St. John for five years and enjoys working with students in the resource program.

“I really enjoy helping to make sure that the school is accessible for our students. I have a really fantastic team of education assistants who truly go above and beyond for these students every day.”

Ware describes the job as incredibly busy, but incredibly rewarding.

“Getting to work with the students and to celebrate their accomplishments, whether they’re big or small, is truly awesome and it’s an incredibly rewarding career,” Ware concludes.

Congratulations to Alyssa Ware for being named January’s Pita Pit Teacher of the Month.
