UPDATE 12:36 p.m. January 30th: Northern Health has announced that the restricted access period at Fort Nelson General Hospital described in the article below has ended. Hospital services have returned to normal and all patients with booked appointments that were affected are being contacted to reschedule.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — A police presence at Fort Nelson’s hospital has put the facility on restricted access for visitors and patients.

Northern Health posted to Facebook at 9:36 a.m. on Thursday, January 30th, saying the Fort Nelson General Hospital was currently on restricted access due to “RCMP activity in the area”.

“There are no safety concerns for staff or patients in the hospital,” the post reads. “However, laboratory and medical imaging services are unavailable and all booked appointments are being postponed.”

No timeline was provided for when the facility will return to normal, but Northern Health says it will update residents as soon as services resume.

Energeticcity.ca contacted RCMP North District media relations officer Madonna Saunderson to learn more about what’s happening, but Saunderson didn’t respond in time for publication.This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
