FORT NELSON, B.C. — Motorists driving west of Fort Nelson are being told to expect “quickly changing and deteriorating” travel conditions on their way towards the Yukon.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the area between Muncho Lake and Stone Mountain Park, west of Fort Nelson, including a stretch of Highway 97.

Ten centimetres of snow is expected to come down across the area over the course of Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The agency recommends people take frequent breaks when clearing the snow away from their vehicles.

“Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight,” the warning reads.

According to the hourly forecast for the Muncho Lake region, the snowfall is expected to turn into flurries from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., before returning to heavier snowfall from then until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 30th.

Anyone planning to travel through the area is also urged to monitor DriveBC for updates on road conditions.
