TAYLOR, B.C. — A local family is mourning the loss of a beloved great-grandfather, husband and friend. They’re now hoping to raise $10,000 to help pay for his funeral.
Dennis Bowe passed away from a heart attack on Sunday, January 19th. His widow, Doreen Bowe, says Dennis was the kind of person who would never say no when asked to help other people.
“He had a pretty rough childhood,” Doreen says. “[His family] came from Alberta. His mission in life was, basically, to help whoever he could.”
Doreen, who was married to Dennis for 50 years, says her husband spent his life working as a mechanic and helping others learn the trade, including his son, nephew and grandson.
“One [friend of Dennis’] told me he was asking, for a stranger, how to fix something, and he said, ‘I couldn’t believe it! I turned my head, and there Dennis was, under the guy’s car, fixing it!’”
Outside of his job, Dennis had a passion for music, playing a wide variety of instruments, including the banjo, piano, fiddle and more.

Bowe’s granddaughter, Samantha Kyle, has organized a GoFundMe to help pay for Dennis’ funeral and to help Doreen cover her living expenses.

Kyle says Dennis’ sudden death has devastated her family. She hopes the fundraiser will rally support for her grandmother from people whose lives Dennis touched, as well as kind-hearted strangers.
As of publication time, $3,255 has been donated to Kyle’s fundraiser in total.
