Streamlining traffic safety concerns in Fort St. John
The City of Fort St. John is looking to streamline the process of receiving, processing, and responding to traffic and pedestrian safety concerns.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John is looking to streamline the process of receiving, processing, and responding to traffic and pedestrian safety concerns.
During the November 25th Committee of the Whole, council members reviewed a report and presentation by city staff about improving the process for managing citizens’ concerns about traffic and pedestrian safety.
“It is important to have a consistent process to deal with these issues when they arise so that they are handled consistently, fairly and there is a process to communicate the decisions made to the community as changes are made to traffic laws,” the report stated.
The report details that the City currently does not have a ‘standard method of responding to and dealing with citizens’ concerns related to traffic and pedestrian safety.’
The Traffic Concerns Working Group currently reviews concerns regularly, and meets in person three times a year to discuss concerns that are raised in patterns, making decisions ‘based on need, safety, and budget.’
The City and Group use various methods to follow up on citizens’ complaints, including traffic surveys and vehicle and pedestrian counts.
Staff will continue to research effective methods to streamline and improve efficiency, and will bring further findings to future council meetings.
