Canada-U.S. relations cabinet reinstated to address post-election cooperation
In the wake of the U.S. election on November 6th, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced the re-establishment of the Cabinet Committee on Canada-U.S. Relations.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – In the wake of the U.S. election on November 6th, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced the re-establishment of the Cabinet Committee on Canada-U.S. Relations.
According to a November 7th press release, the cabinet was re-established to address critical Canada-U.S. issues and ensure Canada thrives alongside the U.S. following their most recent presidential election.  Â
The cabinet is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland, with Minister of Public Safety, Democratic Institutions, and Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc as vice chair.Â
The committee will be responsible for the majority of the cabinet’s work and will include crucial experts, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay, and Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marc Miller.
Other ministers on the committee will include Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Mary Ng, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of National Defence Bill Blair, and Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne.Â
Minister of Transport and President of the Treasury Board Anita Anand and Minister of Emergency Preparedness Harjit S. Sajjan have also been announced as members of the cabinet committee.Â
Sajjan is also the President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and the Minister Responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada.Â
