FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John is proceeding with loan applications totaling more than $1.69 million for two community infrastructure projects to be completed in 2025.

During a regular meeting of council on October 28th, City staff brought forward a ‘request for decision’  regarding two infrastructure projects planned for 2025.

The first project was installing trail lighting in the areas of Northern Lights Drive, 86th Street, and 94th Avenue. The second project is connecting the final connection of Kin Park. This includes the construction of a paved trail, lighting, signage, and a bridge or boardwalk on the park’s north boundary.

For these two projects, staff stated that the City of Fort St. John is eligible to receive 60 per cent of the funds required for these two projects from the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant (BCAT).

Because of this eligibility, staff sought approval from the council to apply for a total of $1,691,600 from BCAT, split into two grants: $779,000 for the first project and $912,600 for the second project.

Following a unanimous decision, the council directed staff to apply for loans to complete the projects in 2025.
