Encampment fire in Fort St. John under investigation

An encampment fire is being cleaned up in the City of Fort St. John as investigations continue.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – An encampment fire is being cleaned up in the City of Fort St. John as investigations continue. 

On the evening of October 9th, the Fort St. John Fire Department responded to the scene of an encampment fire on 101st Avenue and 102nd Street near the Lido Theatre. 

The fire was extinguished around 7 p.m., and City of Fort St. John staff visited the scene the following day to document the damage.

Deputy Fire Chief Matt Troiano explained that the fire consisted of ‘two tents and various debris,’ and was put out within an hour. Due to it’s suspicious nature, the incident has been turned over to the RCMP for investigation.

Debris in the area remains, but the City will be commencing cleaning efforts in the coming days. (Energeticcity.ca staff)

Ryan Harvey, communications manager for the City, explained that RCMP are investigating the incident. 

Throughout the day on October 11th, contracted crews and the City’s bylaw team will be starting to clean up the debris, Harvey said.

One individual involved sustained minor injuries, and was treated by an ambulance crew.
