Hudson’s Hope voters approve $5M loan for new water treatment plant

The District of Hudson’s Hope released the preliminary results of its water treatment plant loan authorization assent vote on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, showing support for the resolution.

HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. — The District of Hudson’s Hope released the preliminary results of its water treatment plant loan authorization assent vote on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, showing support for the resolution.

The vote determined if the district would borrow $5 million to build a permanent water treatment facility.

Of the total votes cast, 134 voted for the resolution, and 107 voted against.

At the preliminary voting period on September 25th, 2024, 90 people voted. Of those, 53 were yes votes, and 37 were no votes.  

At the general voting opportunity on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, an additional 81 people voted yes, compared to 70 people voting no. 

BC Hydro made an offer of support on October 3rd, which was released to the public to ensure that voters ‘are making decisions from an equally informed position.’

The offer includes fully funding the completion of the surface water treatment system and providing project management, lead procurement, and construction. The utility also offered to fund the monthly costs of the rental clarifier and the transfer of ownership of the raw water intake to the district at no cost.
