Rocky Creek Coal Mine proposed for development near Chetwynd
CTI Plus Resources Ltd. is proposing to develop and operate the Rocky Creek Metallurgical Coal Mine located 47 kilometres outside of Chetwynd.

CHETWYND, B.C. — CTI Plus Resources Ltd. is proposing to develop and operate the Rocky Creek Metallurgical Coal Mine located 47 kilometres outside of Chetwynd.
According to the CTI Initial Project description, the Rocky Creek Metallurgical Coal project is estimated to have an estimated annual run-of-mine production rate of 3.0 Megatonnes (Mt), equivalent to 8,220 tonnes per day (tpd), or approximately 1.75 Mt of clean coal per year.
The mine has an estimated construction period of two years and a mine life of 14 years.

Benefits from the project would include local employment, procurement opportunities, skills and training for Indigenous communities.
The proposed project is the first phase of environmental assessment. This phase involves early engagement with the public, First Nations, and stakeholders to identify interests and concerns.
This phase allows the company to consider alternative approaches to mitigate any issues.
Latest Stories
The public will have a period to comment on the project starting on October 7th and ending on November 6th, 2024, including two open houses and a virtual information session.
The first in-person open house will be at the Chetwynd Recreation Centre on October 16th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The second open house will be held at Tumbler Ridge Community Centre on October 17th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The online information session will be held on October 22nd from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. People can register to attend the session here.
After the early engagement phase, the project will go through six more phases before being approved.
