Man injured in police-involved shooting near home in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY — British Columbia’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was shot during an interaction with officers in Surrey, B.C.
Police say the shooting happened at around 7:30 p.m. Monday near a home on Southpark Crescent, when officers were called to a report of a suspicious man in the area.
Surrey police say the man confronted the officers, leading to police firing their weapons.
The injured man has been taken to hospital and is in unknown condition, but police say that he required emergency medical intervention at the scene.
The Independent Investigations Office says it is now looking into the shooting, adding that police told investigators that the man was possibly trying to break into the home on the street.
The office is asking any witnesses to the shooting to reach out as it considers whether there are reasonable grounds to believe that an officer may have committed an offence.
