TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says the Thunder Creek wildfire is now “being held,” and the nearby Highway 52 closure has ended.

The fire, which was discovered on September 5th, quickly grew to 200 hectares in size.

On the 6th, it was announced that a 36-kilometre stretch of Highway 52 would close between Kelly Lake Road and Stone Creek Road, due to the risk of the blaze crossing the highway.

The latest update from BCWS says 30 firefighters and one helicopter have been assigned to the fire, which has reduced to 87.9 hectares in size.

The blaze is now being held, which means it’s expected to stay within its current boundaries.

The highway has reopened, but BCWS advises drivers to check DriveBC for more information since the situation could change at anytime.
