“Fort St. John in particular is struggling with adequate healthcare, something all of us at the yard here are acutely aware of. We hope this drive can help improve healthcare in the peace region and bring awareness to the needs of the community.”

Welsh hopes to get oilfield companies, trucking and forestry companies involved in the drive.

The winner of the drive will receive a hand-crafted cowboy hat made entirely from scrap metal and donated by Bischoff Welding. The trophy will be displayed in the winner’s office the next competition

Welsh says the annual drive in Campbell River typically raises around $26,000 and has the goal to raise $50,000 dollars in donated metal this year due to the larger footprint of Fort St John.

The drive will be running from August 12th to September 12th, 2024. Donations can be left at the North Peace Arena between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
