FWCP announces 2024 grants and information sessions for Peace region

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP) has announced its 2024 grant deadlines and information sessions for the Peace region. 

The program, a partnership between BC Hydro, First Nations, the Province, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and public stakeholders, is intended to conserve and enhance fish and wildlife in watersheds impacted by BC Hydro hydro dams. 

Grants from the FWCP are provided for projects aimed at conserving and enhancing fish and wildlife.

“We fund projects that help us work towards our vision of thriving fish and wildlife populations in watersheds that are functioning and sustainable,” Chelsea Regina, the FWCP’s Peace region manager, said in a July 18th press release.

A total of $1.9 million for 2024, intended for nine fish and 15 wildlife projects across the Peace region. 

The FWCP also announced it will hold two online information sessions about FWCP grants on August 1st at 10 a.m. and September 26th at 1 p.m.

The August session will discuss the notice of intent process, and the September session will provide an overview of the grants available through the FWCP.

Applicants are encouraged to confirm that their project aligns with the action plans maintained by the FWCP for the different regions across British Columbia. The FWCP’s Peace region overview and action plan are available below. 

The deadline to begin applications by submitting a mandatory notice of intent is September 10th, 2024. Work for approved projects will begin starting in April 2025.
