FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Northern Health has announced another overnight closure of the Fort St. John Hospital emergency department on July 17th.

A Facebook post around 1:30 p.m. stated services would be unavailable from 4 p.m. July 17th to 10 a.m. July 18th. The post explained that the closure was due to ‘physician coverage challenges.’

This is the same reason the health authority provided for diversions that occurred overnight on July 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th.

This is the fifth emergency department closure in July in Fort St. John, and the fourteenth closure announced by Northern Health across the Peace region.

During the interruption in services, residents needing life-threatening emergency care are advised to call 911 for ambulance transportation to the nearest hospital in Dawson Creek.

Individuals requiring less urgent care are advised to seek an appointment with a primary care provider or connect with Northern Health’s Virtual Primary and Community Care Clinic.
