DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The City of Dawson Creek has proposed an amendment to its flag policy allowing the Philippine flag to be flown on the councils first meeting day each June.

According to a report to council, “In the month of June every year, the KALIPI South Peace Filipino-Canadian Association and the Filipino community of Dawson Creek celebrate Filipino Heritage Month.”

“The Philippine flag has traditionally been raised and flown on that date on the community flagpole at city hall,” said the report.

Dawson Creek had a large turnout for the flag-raising ceremony for Philipino Month back on June 10th, 2024.

Councillor Gregg Apolonio proposed the flag policy during the June 24th meeting and requested that staff be directed to prepare the amendment.
