FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed out from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Provincial Courts from July 8th to 12th.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, July 8th:

Field was found guilty of aggravated assault and breaching a release order, for incidents in Fort Nelson and Fort St. John that occurred in July and August of 2022.

For the aggravated assault conviction, Field was issued a conditional sentence, which is a sentence to be served outside of jail under strict conditions, sometimes called “house arrest,” for two years less a day.

Field was also ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution, which requires the offender to pay the victim for financial losses the victim suffered because of the crime, and was issued a 12-month probation order.

For the breach of a release order, Field was issued a suspended sentence, where the accused is given conditions to follow. They were also issued another 12-month probation order.

Jason Allen Kraus (born 1981):

Kraus was found guilty of driving while prohibited or with a suspended license, for an incident on January 12th, 2024. Kraus was issued a $750 fine and a $112.50 victim surcharge, which goes towards helping victims of a crime, as well as a one-year driving prohibition.

Travis Shane Roth (born 1989):

Roth was found guilty of mischief for an incident on March 18th, 2024. Roth was isued a suspended sentence and a 12-month probation order.

Alyssa Rae Mary Selberg (born 1979):

Selberg was found guilty of causing a disturbance and breaching a probation order, for incidents in Prince George and Fort St. John in November and December of 2023. 

Selberg was sentenced to jail time served for the disturbance, and received a suspended sentence for the probation order breach. They also received two one-year probation orders.

Michael Arthur Wick (born 1966):

Wick was found guilty of being in a dwelling-house without a lawful excuse and being unlawfully in a dwelling-house, for incidents in Fort St. John in March and June of 2023. 

Wick was issued conditional discharges and two 12-month probation order. A conditional discharge means the record won’t show a conviction if a person meets the conditions the judge sets.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, July 9th:

Benoit Coly (born 1977):

Coly was issued a recognizance after the allegation for one charge of forcible entry, for an incident in Murdale, B.C. on February 13th, 2023. Coly was given conditions to follow by the court.

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing, July 10th:

Jared Benjamin Anton (born 1991):

Anton was found guilty of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, theft $5,000 or under, mischief $5,000 or under, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, for incidents in Fort St. John between November of 2023 and April of 2024.

Anton was sentenced to a combined total of 49 days in jail in addition to jail time served. They also received three two-year probation orders.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, July 11th:

Robert Allan Stanley Portman (born 1972):

Portman was issued a $500 recognizance after the allegation for a charge of uttering threats related to an incident in Dawson Creek on July 26th, 2022. If they break the conditions laid out by the court, they must pay a $500 fine.

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing, July 12th:

Mathew Edward Lawton (born 1996):

Lawton was issued a $500 recognizance after the allegation for a charge of assault related to an incident in Dawson Creek on February 10th, 2023. If they break the conditions laid out by the court, they must pay a $500 fine.

James Sylvester Shearer (born 1988):

Shearer was found guilty of breaching a probation order, breaking and entering to commit an indictable offense, and mischief to property over $5,000, for incidents in Dawson Creek and One Island Lake, B.C. on March 3rd, 2024.

Shearer was sentenced to a combined total of 230 days in jail, on top of jail time served. They were also issued two 12-month probation orders.
