FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Northern Lights Raceway is appealing to race fans and the public for volunteers for races scheduled from July 5th to July 7th.

The track located off 242 Road in Fort St. John currently has races scheduled for July, August, and September.

But a June 25th Facebook post says a “handful” of scheduled volunteers are unavailable to attend the scheduled races.

According to track fundraiser and promotions coordinator Wade McCloud, volunteers are needed for various duties, including helping with race starts and ticket sales.

McCloud says approximately a dozen volunteers are needed for each event.

“We typically run all volunteer base,” explains McCloud. “Volunteers are needed for the four or five races at the track each year.”

“Some volunteers are attending a wedding, and there is another who is heading off on a trip.  So right now, it’s kind of a weird coincidence we need help.”

According to its website, the track located northeast of Fort St. John at 6299 242 Road in Baldonnel opened in 1998 and started life as a 1/8th of a mile track.

The grounds are leased from North Peace Airport Services, and BC Highways donated a control tower from mile 54.

After the races this weekend, the track’s next scheduled event will be on July 27 and 28th. This is a makeup date for a race in June that was canceled due to weather.

Additional races will be held on August 17th and 18th and on September 7th and 8th.

Events this weekend will begin on Saturday at around 10 a.m.

Visit Northern Lights Raceway’s Facebook page for further details about the track, how to volunteer and upcoming events.
