Fort St. John Curling Club highlights growth in membership among the community

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Representatives of the Fort St. John Curling Club presented to the council the club’s highlights and accomplishments in recent years. 

According to their website, the Fort St. John Curling Club was established in 1979 and aims to take a leadership role in developing a network of recreational programs, activities, services, and events that inspire community members to participate in experiences that foster a strong and vibrant community spirit across the region.

During the June 24th meeting, Club President Kathleen Shears said she has seen the club’s membership grow in recent years and is striving to reconnect with the community.

The club’s goals include revenue growth, developing a junior program for young individuals to keep the curling going, membership growth, and a return to eight sheets of ice.

According to the club’s presentation, “At the FSJ Curling Club, not only do we want to continue to keep the sport of curling alive, but we also want to create the perfect atmosphere for special events for individuals and the community we serve.”

Councillor Trevor Bolin expressed gratitude for the club hosting Gradfest at its facility for the city’s 2024 graduates.

“Without this facility, 460 of our graduates wouldn’t have had a safe, zero-issue night at your facility,” said Bolin. 

Councillor Tony Zabinsky also mentioned that it’s good to see seniors taking advantage of the facility.
