Council proclaims May 26th to June 1st Pride Week in Fort St. John

The City of Fort St. John has declared the week of May 26th to be Pride Week. (Energeticcity.ca)

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Council has proclaimed May 26th to June 1st Pride Week in Fort St. John.

“It is important to provide a safe space for community members to be themselves,” Don McMillan, treasurer of the North Peace Pride Society, said during their presentation to the council.

The society submitted the request on April 23rd, also asking for the Pride flag to be set up outside city hall during the week.

The flag was raised on May 27th and will fly until June 2nd. A rainbow light-up on the Centennial Park stage has also been scheduled for May 31st.

On June 1st, the North Peace Pride Society will hold its annual pride walk and festival in Centennial Park, featuring local performers and a live band, and the society will also be hosting the Pride Dance at the Pomeroy Hotel on June 1st. 

On May 6th, the District of Taylor declared the week of May 27th to June 1st 2024 to be pride week in the district.
