Fort St. John Firefighter’s 2024 Charity Ball raises record-breaking amount

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Firefighters Charitable Society raised a record-breaking amount at their annual Charity Ball on May 4th.

Society president Brent Morgan said over $166,000 was raised, an increase to the over $144,000 raised last year.

The proceeds from the ball will go toward three initiatives the society supports: the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund, the Medical Travel Fund, and its partnership with School District 60.

The Burn Fund focuses on helping burn survivors who have been through traumatic events as well as teaches burn prevention and education.

“This charity has a building for people that are from out of town, located close to Vancouver General Hospital that helps support people with emergency circumstances for medical treatment due to burn and major trauma injuries,” according to the Charitable Society’s website. 

The Medical Travel Fund assists people in and around Fort St. John who need to travel for medical reasons and covers travel, accommodations and meals.

Through a partnership with SD 60, the society also provides funding for the district’s lunch program and backpacks for kids.

Morgan says 340 tickets were sold for the Charity Ball at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre.

“It was very well attended,” said Morgan. “We seem to have no issue selling out quickly. It’s nice to see everybody get together, get dressed up, and have a good time.”

The event included live music, a live and silent auction, and a 50/50 draw.

Morgan added that the society has set a date for next year’s ball, which will be held on May 3rd, 2025.
