Alleged fraudster arrested in Dawson Creek on Alberta warrants, quickly released from custody

Dawson Creek RCMP officers say a man arrested on 24 Alberta warrants has been released from police custody.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek RCMP officers say a man arrested on 24 Alberta warrants has been released from police custody.

Allan Phillips, a 39-year-old, was reportedly arrested on May 1st after a vehicle he was in was pulled over at the corner of Highway 97 South and Highway 52 North in Arras.

According to officers, Phillips’ outstanding warrants were extended to be valid in British Columbia. Some of the warrants reportedly dated back as far as 2014.

His charges include four counts of fraud over $5,000, seven counts of fraud under $5,000, 11 counts of obtaining credit by fraud, one count of false pretense and one count of failing to comply with a release document.

Police say they applied to keep Phillips in custody, but he was quickly released into the Dawson Creek community.

Phillips isn’t the only recent alleged offender police have applied to keep in custody.

On April 21st, police brought eleven new charges against 29-year-old resident Tanner Murray and applied to keep him despite saying they expected him to be released as well.
