RCMP pursue keeping repeat offender in custody despite expected release

Police in Dawson Creek say they’ve applied to keep a repeat offender in custody, but they expect him to be released.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Police in Dawson Creek say they’ve applied to keep a repeat offender in custody, but they expect him to be released.

According to officers, Tanner Murray, a 29-year-old resident who had been out on bail since early January after a prior arrest, is now facing 11 new charges.

A release from the Dawson Creek RCMP detachment claims he was arrested without incident on April 13th after violating several conditions of his release order.

“The arrest and investigation of Tanner resulted in the subsequent search of a vehicle which yielded copious amounts of ammunition, a loaded firearm and support gear for organized crime, among other things,” the release reads.

Murray’s new charges include seven counts of breaching a release order, one count of occupying a vehicle knowing there was a firearm in the vehicle, one count of possessing a defaced firearm, one count of operating a vehicle while impaired, and one count of transporting a firearm in an unsafe manner.

RCMP first put out a warrant for Murray’s arrest in December, saying he was wanted for robbery and uttering threats.

According to the release, the RCMP detachment has applied to keep Murray in custody, but he’s expected to be released back into the community.
