FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Association for Community Living is preparing to kick off a new fundraising campaign with a live concert featuring an Australian country singer.
Daniel Champagne, an Australian performer and songwriter, is playing at the Lido Theatre in Fort St. John on Sunday, April 21st, as part of his ongoing cross-Canada tour.
Champagne says the performance was organized in part by the association’s CEO, Jordan Soggie, who contacted him asking if he’d be willing to hold a charity show.
“I think he saw that I was sort of heading up towards Grande Prairie, and obviously, it’s only a bit further to go to Fort St. John, so he got in touch, and we lined up a date,” Champagne says.
The association is using the event to kick off a new fundraising campaign to renovate its current building, expanding its service space to 6,000 square feet and turning it into an “accessible community space.”
The nonprofit, which has provided services and support for adults with developmental disabilities since 1960, announced late last month that it had found a new building for its main operations, and it expects to be fully moved into the new space in July.
Champagne says he’s never worked with an organization like the association before, but he didn’t hesitate to work with them.

“There’s no history, really,” he explains. “Jordan got in touch about doing a show, and he sent me a bit of information on the organization, and I said, ‘yep, yep, we’ll do it, and we’ll do whatever we can.’”
