FORT ST. JOHN B.C. — Council declared the month of February as CDC month during their meeting on Monday in preparation for the Child Development Centre’s 51st annual talent show.

Crystal Kalas, the talent show coordinator, sent a letter to council in January requesting the proclamation and invited the mayor and councillors to attend the show.

According to the request letter, the CDC will work with local businesses as they host events supporting the CDC throughout the month, hoping to raise $100,000 in funds and awareness of their programs and services.

In her request, Kalas said, “Every year, we put a portion of the funds raised towards our mortgage, and this year is no exception. However, we will also put a portion of the funds raised towards a centre project to be announced at a later date.”

The CDC raised over $91,000 through its talent show last year.

In their presentation to council, the CDC said they had received 1,249 new referrals, 1,506 centre visits, and 851 unique clients served from 2022 to 2023.
