FORT ST. JOHN B.C. — The City of Fort St. John is donating three air handling units to the North Peace SPCA to help reduce renovation costs for the organization’s facility.

Council approved the donation in their meeting on February 12th.

The three units were removed from the North Peace Arena lobby during renovations in the spring of 2022 and replaced by new units with proceeds from provincial grants.

Staff set aside the units during the renovation, feeling they still had value and should not be sent to recycling.

The city says the air units are almost 20 years old and incompatible with current city projects.

“The SPCA is an important non-profit agency in our community and is in the process of undergoing extensive and expensive renovations at their new facility,” said Chief Administrative Officer Milo MacDonald in a February 12th report to council.

“There is an opportunity to offset some of these costs through the donation of air handling units which are surplus to city needs, but still functional.”

The report says that the SPCA fills an important function for the city by acting as a pound for animals brought by bylaw officers.
