Capelle says crews found an unconscious man in the room and administered medical aid until he was taken to the Dawson Creek Hospital in an ambulance.
Later, the man would be airlifted out of Dawson Creek, but his condition is unknown at this time.
The fire chief says the crew’s quick work saved the hotel, as the fire was contained to one room and may have also saved a life. A few more minutes and the unidentified man would have been in even worse condition, he adds.
According to Capelle, the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
